Evolution in Cobblemon follows the classic rules — but a few methods work differently in Minecraft than you might expect. Here's the full map.
Level-up evolutions
The majority of species evolve by reaching a level. When the threshold hits, an evolve prompt appears in your party screen — evolution never happens automatically, so you'll never accidentally evolve something you wanted to keep small. Tap the prompt whenever you're ready; it doesn't expire.
Stone evolutions
Fire, Water, Thunder, Leaf, Ice, Moon, Sun, Shiny, Dusk, Dawn — all the classic stones exist in the world. You'll find them while mining (each stone has its own ore that spawns in biomes matching its element) or as event and crate rewards. Using one is as simple as right-clicking it onto the right Pokémon.
Mining tip: water stones practically wash up on shore around here. Fire stones, less so. Trade accordingly.
Friendship evolutions
Species like the classic baby Pokémon evolve from high friendship. Friendship builds from:
- Keeping the Pokémon in your party while you play
- Battling with it (wins help, faints hurt)
- Walking with it sent out beside you
- Feeding it berries it likes
There's no friendship meter on the HUD — check the summary screen for the heart indicator. Most friendship evolutions also need a level-up to trigger once friendship is maxed.
Trade evolutions — no trade required
The species that classically need trading evolve with a link cable, a craftable item. Right-click it onto the Pokémon and the evolution prompt appears. If the species also needs a held item (metal coats and friends), have the Pokémon hold it first.
Context evolutions
A handful of species care about where and when:
- Time of day — some evolve only at night or only in daylight. The prompt simply won't appear outside the window.
- Biome — a few need a level-up inside a specific biome type. Between the islands, reefs, and jungles, nearly all of them are covered; check a species' dex entry if you're stuck.
- Held items — give the item, then level once.
When the prompt won't show
Ninety percent of "my Pokémon won't evolve" cases are one of: friendship not actually maxed, wrong time of day, or a required held item missing. The species' Pokédex entry lists its exact conditions — and if it still won't budge, chat will solve it in under a minute.
